I’m absolutely in love with this art commission, done by Luna Camila Arts – she really brought this scene and my main characters to life.

This scene is the very moment that Kennedy and Viera meet after ten years apart and the tension is palpable. The tavern that they are seated in is very much the image of harmony, warmth, romance and allure – yet between them is nothing but tension and years of unresolved emotions.

Here’s a excerpt from Pirate’s Vow encompassing this moment between them:

He’d missed her so much it hurt but he didn’t dare say so, not when her welcome had been as warm as an ice bath.

Ken made to pull out a chair for her, but she shot him a look of warning and coldly claimed her seat. With her body language screaming profanities at him, Ken knew this was going to be a tough talk. He took his seat opposite her and mentally scrambled for words. Something that would start them off amicably, but after ten years was there really a way to diffuse the impending bomb bound to detonate between them?

She dug her hand into her jacket pocket and dashed a pocket watch between them.

He smiled a little. The irony. Guess he really had twenty minutes before that bomb exploded.

Ken knew what he couldn’t tell her, so that helped. Telling her who he really was, who he’d become or why he was back in Belle Vue, the things she was bound to ask him, was forbidden territory. The truth would cause more harm than good, and right now in this place of harmony with its strict rules, he didn’t want to risk them both getting banned.
